Costa Rica - Colima natural

Our Coffee Pirates Espresso of the Month June 2024

Hacienda Colima has been owned by the Castro-Kahle family since the 1840s. It is currently run by Alejo Kahle Castro, a fifth generation producer whose dedication to quality and innovation has earned him top 10 rankings with Hacienda Colima and his other farm Volcan Azul, from which we featured three coffees from the most recent harvest this year. Hacienda Colima is located on the slopes of the Barva Volcano at 1350-1500m above sea level and is 14km as the crow flies from Volcan Azul, where all ripe cherries are brought for processing. The main crop on the farm is sugar cane, but that is changing rapidly as demand for excellent quality coffee from Costa Rica continues to grow.

Alejo and his team produce a varied range of micro-lots each season that reflect the unique characteristics of each grape variety, utilising his team's expertise in a wide range of processing techniques as well as the wondrous gifts of nature and terroir that the farm's volcanic slopes have to offer, and this super-sweet Natural Caturra lot is no exception.
