Our coffee capsule consists of 100% renewable raw materials . This is independently certified by DIN CERTCO with the seal “100% bio-based” (test number 8C150).

The wood for our rezemo coffee capsules comes from sustainable, PEFC-certified forestry in southern Germany. We use wood fibers from residual products such as sawdust.

Our coffee capsule does not contain any fossil plastics (plastics). Therefore, it is free from permanent Microplastics – even during decomposition, no microplastics can be produced thanks to 100% bio-based ingredients.

In cooperation with worldwatchers.org We have succeeded in making a first independent statement about the CO2 emissions caused by the rezemo coffee capsule. The result, taking into account all relevant production steps of the various components as well as all logistics steps, is clear: the rezemo capsule can save at least 55% of CO2 emissions compared to an aluminum capsule.

26 % less CO2 emissions compared to fossil plastic capsules

Compared to a plastic capsule produced using petrochemicals, at least 26% of _CO2 emissions are saved. The _CO2 emissions for the disposal of plastic capsules are not included in this value. Since plastic capsules rarely end up completely empty in the yellow bag , the Recycling rate low and the majority is banned. 100 % green electricity for rezemo production in Baden-Württemberg

As rezemo GmbH we use for our production to 100% green electricity from renewable energies. We verifiably obtain our electricity from hydroelectric power plants in the Alpine region that meet the legally prescribed environmental standards. In this way, we set the highest standards in terms of environmental protection and actively contribute to the energy transition.

1. Natural material wood

Wood is a great raw material – available in abundance here and therefore does not need to be imported. In our forests If it is managed sustainably , we will never run out of it. Softwood from southern German forests is used for our coffee capsules. When sawmills produce construction and furniture wood, large quantities of sawdust and wood shavings are produced. At rezemo, we use this residual product in its natural form as a raw material for our coffee capsules. We do not have to chemically process them, do not cut down any trees and create an additional value creation level for this great natural material.

2. Binder made from plant starch

Of course, we do not carve our coffee capsules from solid wood – that would cause a lot of waste. That is why the wood fibres have to be held together with a binding agent. For this we use PLA, a bioplastic made from natural plant starch. This plant starch is obtained from corn and sugar beet. Our PLA is biodegradable. However, since the capsule contains mostly wood, it decomposes faster than other bioplastic packaging.

3. Environmentally friendly production

The wood fibres can now be combined with the PLA through so-called Injection molding into shape. The material is processed using heat and high pressure. Injection molding allows us to completely avoid the creation of production waste. It is important to us that the production of the coffee capsules is also environmentally friendly. That is why we pay attention to short distances and produce our entire product in Germany. For this we only use Green electricity from hydropower plants in the Alpine region.

4. 100% bio-based

This creates the innovative rezemo coffee capsule , which is certified by DIN CERTCO in the top category with the test result "100% bio-based" (test number 8C150). This makes us the provider of sustainable coffee capsules. Of course, we think holistically - our sustainable coffee capsules protect the coffee aroma and our outer box contains neither aluminum nor plastic. We also ship our products with DHL GoGreen.
