AEROPRESS coffee frees you from the constraints of gravity

The AeroPress is a space-age, gravity-defying device invented by Aerobie in Oakland. Aerobie is responsible for developing the long-flying "Superdisc," which broke the Guinness World Record by flying 1,333 feet into the air. (Take that, Frisbee!) The same mastery of aerodynamics comes into play here, with this peculiar and beautiful coffee-brewing device.

Step 1

Bring 200 g of water to the boil. Then weigh 15–18 grams Coffee from (depending on the desired strength). Grind the coffee beans to a texture that is slightly finer than sea salt.

Place your Paper filter into the removable plastic cap of the Aeropress.

Use some of your hot water to moisten the filter and cap. The water serves a dual function: It helps the filter to stick to the cap and warms up your brewing vessel. This can be a challenge because the water is hot and the cap is quite small: hold the cap by the “ears” and pour Add water very slowly so that it can be absorbed by the filter.


Step 4

Now assemble your AeroPress. Now make sure that the entire assembly is dry, as residual moisture can compromise the device's sealing properties.


Step 5

Put it with the flared end upwards On your Scale and then tare the weight. The numbers should be upside down. It is possible to attach the black filter cap and place it right side up, but this will cause leaks and make accurate brewing difficult.


Step 6

Now add the ground coffee. Be careful not to spill any coffee grounds into the ring-shaped groove on top of the AeroPress.


Step 7

Start your timer and add twice as much water as your coffee grounds (e.g. for 15 grams of coffee, add 30 grams of water). The water should be about 96 degrees.


Step 8

Check that the coffee is evenly saturated and tap it lightly with the paddle or butter knife if necessary. Now let it rest for 30 seconds.


Step 9

Now use the rest of the hot water to fill the chamber.


Step 10

After one minute, stir the ground material 10 times, stirring really well.


Step 11

Fasten the cap and make sure it snaps firmly into the grooves. Then turn the entire assembly over quickly and carefully. Position the Aeropress on your pot or mug and start applying downward pressure. You will now feel some resistance. If it feels too light to press, your grind is probably too coarse; If it is very hard to press, the grind is probably too fine. Your coffee is fully brewed when you hear the hissing sound. Then no more water is pushed through the filter.


Step 12

Once you have unscrewed the cap, you can remove the filter and coffee puck by simply pushing the AeroPress plunger out a final centimeter.

Pour yourself the coffee and enjoy!
