How is espresso roasted?
How is espresso roasted at Coffee Pirates?
Espresso is usually made from a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans and must be ground particularly finely to achieve optimal extraction. Roasting espresso beans is different from roasting beans for filter coffee, as espresso requires a higher caffeine content and a stronger flavor.
Espresso beans are usually roasted for longer and at higher temperatures than filter coffee beans. A typical roasting time for espresso beans is around 20-25 minutes at temperatures of 180-220 °C.
Roasting espresso beans requires careful control of temperature settings and air circulation to ensure that the beans are not over-roasted or under-roasted and that the aroma and flavor of the espresso is preserved.
An experienced roaster adjusts the temperature settings and the duration of the roast to ensure that the beans achieve the right color, roast level and flavor. After roasting, the espresso beans are quickly cooled to preserve the aroma and prevent the growth of bitter substances.
