Arabica vs. Robusta
Arabica vs. Robusta
There are two main types of coffee beans consumed: Arabica and Robusta. Arabica is the most popular bean, with a smooth, balanced flavor, complex aroma, and pronounced acidity. Robusta is more resilient and contains almost twice as much caffeine as Arabica. It has a bolder flavor, without the complexity of Arabica. It is generally used in blends that require a strong aroma to mask the taste of the Robusta.Arabica coffee beans are grown primarily in Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Indonesia. Robusta coffee beans are grown primarily in Central Africa, Southeast Asia, Brazil, and India.
The differences between these coffee varieties are due to genetics. Arabica trees are more susceptible to pests and diseases than Robusta trees, so they require more care to stay healthy. For this reason, Arabica coffee is more expensive to grow.
Due to their less resilient genetics, Arabica trees also have a lower yield than Robusta trees - they produce about 50% fewer coffee cherries per tree. This also makes Arabica more expensive than Robusta.
Arabica coffee also contains less caffeine than Robusta coffee (about 0.9% versus 2.7% for Robusta).
The world's most popular coffee bean is Arabica, the only coffee plant that can be grown at altitudes between 3,000 and 6,500 feet.
Arabica and Robusta are two of the most important types of coffee plants in the world. Arabica is the most popular type of coffee in the world, accounting for 70% of total coffee production. The other 30% is Robusta.
As you might suspect, both varieties have different advantages and disadvantages depending on how they are used. Here are five things to know about each variety:
Robusta coffee is more bitter, has more caffeine and contains twice as much polyphenol.
Polyphenol is an antioxidant that goes well with a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
Robusta coffee beans have a significantly higher polyphenol content than Arabica coffee beans. Polyphenols play an important role in the human body.
They are used by the human body to counteract the aging process, prevent diseases and strengthen the immune system. The higher the polyphenol content, the better the health benefits of coffee.
Therefore, drinking coffee improves concentration, reduces fatigue, protects the heart and strengthens the immune system.
