story
In total, Detech Coffee works with around 2,000 farms in the region. By paying premium prices for good quality cherries as part of the Red Cherry program, Detech Coffee benefits from a high quality standard. The income of these small farmers also improves significantly, which has a positive impact on their lives and their communities.
The cooperative is led by Ngoc Anh Sprünker, who is also chairwoman of the Vietnamese chapter of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA). From the very beginning, we were impressed by her commitment to sustainability, social development and gender equality.
With this new partnership, we are delighted to be able to offer a coffee from the northern mountains of Vietnam for the first time. A developing and promising coffee region that we would like to introduce to you.
More information
We are pleased to announce our new partnership with Detech Coffee, an exceptional coffee producer from northern Vietnam. Through our extensive network in Vietnam, we came into contact with Detech Coffee in 2022. From the very beginning, we were impressed by their commitment to sustainability, social development and gender equality. The cooperative is led by Ngoc Anh Sprünker, who is also chair of the Vietnamese chapter of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA). Detech Coffee operates in the Son La province in northern Vietnam. The cooperative has built an excellent reputation for its high-quality coffee offerings and commitment. The cooperative consistently promotes a positive impact on indigenous communities and the local coffee industry.
Detech Coffee takes a comprehensive approach to the entire production process. They operate their own processing station to process purchased coffee cherries and also buy parchment directly from the farmers. This ensures quality control at every step. With a gender-balanced workforce of 45 employees, Detech Coffee places a strong emphasis on gender equality and promotes balanced representation of women on their team. During the coffee season, Detech relies on a core team of experts to minimize the need for extensive seasonal labor. This approach allows them to maintain efficiency and consistency in their operations. Each individual farm plot in the Detech Coffee network covers 0.5 to 2 hectares, offering farmers a sustainable and manageable size. This land ownership model allows them autonomy and control over their own farms.
In the "Red Cherry Program," Detech Coffee works with around 2,000 farms, with a special focus on ethnic communities such as Taidam and H'Mong. By offering premium prices for good cherry quality, Detech Coffee not only benefits from excellent coffee, but also significantly improves the income of these small farmers. This has a positive impact on their lives and their communities. In addition, Detech Coffee actively supports gender equality in the coffee industry as Founding member and ongoing sponsor of the International Women's Coffee Alliance (IWCA ), Vietnam Chapter. Their programs include the production of premium coffee for ethnic female coffee producers, as well as coffee ecotours that provide additional income and new job opportunities for women in the industry.
For their efforts, IWCA Vietnam received a grant from the Starbucks Foundation to train women in coffee on occupational health and safety. In addition to their commitment to the coffee industry, Detech Coffee is also involved in community work and social responsibility initiatives. They work with organizations such as Healing Hearts Vietnam to provide financial support for the diagnosis and surgery of Vietnamese children with congenital heart defects. In addition, their partnership with IWCA Vietnam and joint fundraising campaigns contribute to the overall development of coffee farming communities, including donation of seedlings and fruit trees, training in agricultural techniques, and the creation of sustainable ecosystems.
As an import partner in Europe, we are proud to bring the outstanding coffee to roasters across the continent. As we begin our partnership, we are excited to introduce Northern Vietnamese Arabica coffee for the first time. This remarkable coffee embodies Detech Coffee's outstanding quality and sustainable practices.
